Planting Seeds of Hope...

Can you imagine how life changes  for a kid while their parent is deployed?  How is family life different? What new responsibilities are added to their lives? Life looks ... totally different!

The life of a child changes dramatically when a parent is deployed in the military. Bahavior can change at home and more dramatically behavior can change at school. To help students successfully meet the challenges of this change in their lives, MSM has designed a program of activities for the student to share with their classmates at school.  There is no better place to receive peer support during these difficult times than right in the classroom with their  friends!

The day-long program includes geography and culture activities. Food tasting and foreign dress are studied. A comparison is made between a child's day in Iraq versus a day that our U.S. students expereince.

The students also share in a discussion on the changes experienced by students who have a parent in a war zone. These discussions include conversation about the new roles of children in a deployed household... and how friends can help their deployed friends cope with the changes.

The day retreat includes many crafts, computer information researches, snacks, costumes and lots of fun. Special uniforms will be worn by the deployed student and their whole class will receive dog tags, etc.

The finale to the day is a LIVE video session in which each child can send a video email message to the deployed soldier! We encourage the kids to be creative - sing a song, write a poem, create a skit ... all in support of the soldier and their fellow classmate. MSM will return quarterly to record additional messages to further support the soldier and the military student.

For full details on this program call MSM.

All programming is graded to fit the age of the students involved. We suggest third through sixth grades.
